Israeli Occupation Forbids Palestinians from Using the Last Two Meters of Minaret in Nablus |
Israeli Authorities forbade Palestinians from making the minaret on Boreen mosque, south of Nablus, two meters higher.
Tawfiq Jabbareen, the lawyer working on this case, told Palestinian newswire, Wafa, that the Israeli Supreme Court issued a decision few days ago to forbid Palestinians from using a further two meters of the 30 meter tall minaret, either for lighting or as megaphones for prayers.
Jabareen explained that this decision was issued after a group of Israeli settlers raised a plea against using the minaret, under the pretext that this part of the mosque is located in area C, which is under Israeli security control.
He also said that the Israeli Court issued a decision to stop Palestinians from using this mosque two years ago.
The head of Boreen village's council, Ali Mohammad Eid, said that the mosque is located in the center of the village and has been surrounded by buildings from every side for many years. He pointed out that the 'Rakavem' group protest against all buildings that are being constructed in Area C. This group has raised more than one plea against the mosque.
